JNCL (Juvenile Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinoses) is a degenerating disease of the brain. It is caused by a change (mutation) in the JNCL gene.

This is a disease of children, affecting both young boys and young girls. It is found in all races throughout the world. Children generally live to their late teens or early twenty’s. For each child disease progression is different but the cause remains the same, a mutation in the JNCL gene.

Genes are strings of chemicals and chemicals can be taken apart and put together through biochemical techniques. Scientists have begun to discover the biochemical secrets of JNCL. Within these disease secrets science will find areas which will be able to be manipulated for therapies.
